RE this week

As part of our RE topic, we have been comparing the features of the synagogue with other places of worship.  We used Fizzbooks, learning logs and our own knowledge to prepare presentations.

We then shared our findings with the rest of the class.

The presentations were very interesting, what can you remember?

Exciting News

Mrs Warner is the teacher from Fieldhead Carr School who helped me to set up our class blog.  She has just sent me an email with some exciting news! Her class blog has been nominated to win an award and has asked me to vote for them.

Why don't you have a look at the Fieldhead Carr Year 4 Blog and see why their blog is so special?

To say a big thank you for giving us so much help with our blog, why don't you vote for them too? I already have!  All you need to do is follow the instructions on their page.

Maths Workshop

Aneesh, Jamie, Arnav and Aryan had fun at Wetherby High School on Friday when we attended a maths workshop.  The day involved lots of different maths activities and investigations.

The task was to place the balls in a straight line, which covered the shortest distance possible

Once we had the shortest distance, we then had to arrange them to cover the greatest distance, but the balls had to touch.
Another task was to design our own flag using symmetry

Using a spread sheet we worked out the cost to make our keyrings

During break time we were given some delicious flapjack...some of us even got two pieces!!

Another task was to work out the diameter of objects to test out the measurement of Pi.
We also designed our own Olympic 2012 Logo to work out the profit and loss of maufacturing them.

Evaluating Adverts

Following this week's literacy lessons, try to evaluate the effectiveness of these advertisements.  Points to consider include:
  1. Who do you think the adverts are aimed at?
  2. Which advertising techniques have been used?
  3. Do you think they are effective in persuading people to buy the products?
  4. What would you do to improve them?

Summer Term

The holidays are nearly over and I have just been looking at our lessons for the new term.  Please remember to bring in advertisements (preferably full page ones) from any magazines, that have been finished with, for our literacy topic - persuasive writing.

Do you know which features make a really good advertisement?
